Detect Evil (And other detect spells like detect good/magic etc) do require some concentration, so the paladin would be focussed on this, I figure. And that sort of focus likely would be seen. I have a question specific to the detect evil ability. Currently there is yellow text that tells everyone nearby that a paladin has used detect evil, and I have never been sure whether that was IC or OOC.

He actually considered it but then the demon prince would just destroy the gates and the fight would've gone as it did.

Unfortunately in NWN in general, Blackguard has been fairly underwhelming beyond the first few levels and even in more orthodox servers than this one it's not typicallly warranting the hoops one have to jump through in the application process to even be considered for blackguard. Sarshel main gates can be locked

Discovered today that the sarshel main gates can be locked with a dc of 1, and only unlocked with a DC of 32.

I think part of the issue is that even for an evil PC daemonbinder and blackguard offer flavor but are mechanically behind pure classes, as least as I've been able to ascertain. Evil is generally a faster or more potent path to power, and also generally either double edged or risking something like ...
