Character concepts sharing thread

I've seen topics like these on several NWN forums and I felt the need to start one here. Its purpose is to share and / or discuss character concepts so we can learn of new opinions and perspectives. So what character would you like to see that you cannot play by yourself for any reason? What is a concept you are playing or perhaps struggling with? What niche in the playerbase would you like to see filled up?

I shall start with one myself. Currently my three main PC's are all level 6 or 7, which means that I am in need of an alt for the lower levels. I have a level 3 priest of Tempus, but he is not my most interesting character and if he is used it is to provide very decent support to lowbies. He is best kept at that level and for rp I would prefer something else. There is a Mulhorandi monk of Thoth (pretty much the equivalent of Oghma) in my vault, but in the deep depths of my brain the concept of an elder and somewhat feeble gnome druid / shifter is lurking.

I'd welcome any feedback and I look forward to see what other people will have to share when it comes to character concepts.

  • A "priest" who is of a different class, for example a wizard "priest" of Oghma or Mystra; a singing monk "priest" of Milil; a fighter "priest" of a martial god
  • A flamboyant evoker who acts as his own narrator after (and before) every display of spellcasting
  • An ex-communicated halfling (or gnome) who wants his fame to grow so great that his village welcomes him home the hero that he is. He might become a Witchhunter
  • Make that a halfling or gnome who starts out with the large phenotype and gradually loses weight :)
  • A male cleric or druid of any god (really; there are too many females!)

I'm currently tossing around the idea of a divine character in my head after failing to get myself behind the idea of playing my paladin of Ilmater. Just today I was so keen on rolling a cleric of Kelemvor that I forgot what year the server is in currently (five years or so before Kelemvor becomes 'a thing' in the realms). Considering a cleric of Jergal currently.

EDIT: Also, I am really hankering for playing / rolling a duo of some sort...! A priest and their paladin escort or something along those lines.

  • A flamboyant evoker who acts as his own narrator after (and before) every display of spellcasting You will want to rip out all the pages in his spellbook, trust me.
  • An ex-communicated halfling (or gnome) who wants his fame to grow so great that his village welcomes him home the hero that he is. He might become a Witchhunter This one's cool, very achievable, foreseeable (optimistic!) end to the PC's career, not jumping the shark, totally believable, and plenty of room for the PC's goals, ambition, and purpose to grow into a hell of a lot more than simple fame and redemption.
  • Make that a halfling or gnome who starts out with the large phenotype and gradually loses weight :) Why not :P
  • A male cleric or druid of any god (really; there are too many females!) +1
Addendum: I found that very, very easy to peer review, thanks to the bullet point format. Other posters who want feedback from people, consider using this format in addition to your other preferred outputs. Sorry I sound like a complete machine in saying that, it's super late.

I think the biggest thing to get a character going for me is inspiration and potential.
Some concepts that I'd love to see, off the top of my head:
- A civilian old-school occultist. Armchair expert that uses knowledge and magical artifacts (UMD) without being able to actually use magic through a caster class.
- A classic blind archer. Probably with zen archery.
- More strongly faithful characters who aren't defined by paladin/cleric/druid classes.
- A military/naval officer, retired or not to fill a sort of disciplined leadership role.
- A half-orcish sorcerer or wizard, putting bigots to shame.
- An elven paladin. Sure, elves are generally chaotic and their gods don't usually have paladins but I'm sure someone could pull it off.
- A quarterstaff weapon master whose vowed never to take a human/sentient life. Monk undertones but not necessarily.
- A harper scout that would recruit people of different backgrounds/talents to form a secret harper cell in Impiltur with a safehouse hidden in Sarshel or something.
- A daemonbinder with a subjective morality who fights Evil with Evil.

It's a lot to ask for, for some, but something I'd love to see more are non-adventuring characters. Not necessary civilians, but characters who are perhaps more professional and specialized than your everyday adventurer to fill roles in the civilized settlements. Ex: Mercenaries, spies, assassins, peddlers, warswords/village militia, bartenders, diplomats, messengers, etc.

Some colourful reading here. Quite a long list of various concepts portrayed as Realms Personalities.

Hello,

I'd still like to create a viable necromancer character. If anybody has any ideas.

Thanks,
AusGre

Seconded. It's characters like these that add more flair to servers I find.

While the first character I rolled on this server deliberately matches the stereotype, I could not agree more with this.

For me, I find leveling new characters a bit of a struggle in general. But some things I would like to see (more of):
  • More characters that are relatives or that share a past - Character connections like that create powerful dynamics
  • Morally grey characters - Not necessarily antagonists, just more flawed individuals to balance out our noble heroes
  • An old person or human in their late teens - 9/10 RP characters tend to be in their early twenties to late thirties
  • Natives (or characters from the bordering lands), simply because there can never really be too many of those
In terms of specific character concepts:
  • A corrupt city guard
  • A cowardly knight
  • A sneaky horse thief
  • A drunken dwarf bard

Hi everyone!
This is a fun read. New to the PW and my first character is a simple traveling Ilmateri monk. I figured it was a safe concept given the region and lore. What I intend to do is use his travels to scout out-of-character the various shops, manufacturers, barracks, shrines, temples, docks, etc. and craft a character that I feel more comfortable with and excited about playing, possibly a non-adventurer. What little I’ve seen so far is beautifully built and I immediately noticed there’s lots of detail.
