Server Event: The Road Ahead

Postby Obsidian Sea » Sat Dec 17, 2016 11:33 am

A reckoning begins in Laviguer.

The terrible Daemon of 7th Mirtul has emerged over Laviguer. Premeditated by The Most Holy Order and the Warwands, a massive evacuation leads the people of Laviguer and the outlying settlements south towards the distant urban settlements of Impiltur that might chance housing them.

Meantime, the sky is lit by fire, and by thunder. The wicked sounds and shadows of wings beating the sky and ripping the clouds tells of only one entity's part in the battle that occurs, but the might of The Triad, and Impiltur's most seasoned, capable official forces holds the line.

Much has been misspoken, or not at all revealed between many of the parties involved in the preservation of Impiltur throughout these dawning months of darkness, yet the time for information and for independent action has passed: the final battle has begun, and the final chapter is to be written imminently as the mightiest and bravest of Impiltur's people rally to save Laviguer and its people. And you are perhaps among them. Forces move down The Laviguer Road protecting refugees, but the way is beset by peril. It is too late to reach Laviguer now, but something may yet be done to save its people as they navigate the perilous road that will lead them towards the place that it all began. Sarshel.

In a bout of stupidity or nobility, but uncharacteristic either way, Isalin Pine makes several more attempts to reach Laviguer and help guide its people partway down the Prince's Road. It would be false to say she travels fearlessly or battles more than the occasional lesser daemon, for concealment and unnatural haste are her first tools of survival. But either she lacks the powers of divination to find the answers that she craves or her search calls for more hands-on intervention, for she does not lightly let the Abyssal threat discourage her.

The hedge knight Merney Valroc's arrival to the Prince's Road is a belated one, and it is on his lonesome, perhaps foolishly so - but the gravity of the situation does not dissuade the Damaran from offering whatever little aid he still can, whether it is to escort and guide refugees out of harm's way or by battling demonspawns.

The warrior's path leads to the Quickfoot farm in particular, his task to see to their safety and evacuation, should they yet linger out of defiance or fear.

Lucien's rest after seeing the wagons down through Outentown wasn't a long one. A single night was spent in the comfort of his own home, and the next morning Casamir was saddled and bridled, ready to head north again. While Vlasta was evacuated, there was little sign of the outlying settlements having joined in. What sort of a bodyguard would he be to the Hysunts, if he didn't return now?
He made sure to travel by day and quickly, the land of the Lord and Lady Hysunt his destination.

Cassandra would spend the whole day tending to the wounds of the refugees and the brave warriors that battled with such honor and boldness the forces of darkness.
What she saw today she'll never forget, not soon. Nothing she hasn't seen before, but certain views are always a dagger that pierce the heart. She's glad that at least they managed to save more than a half of the refugees, the Lord of Vlasta and the members of the Most Holy Order, but the memory of that woman crying on the corpse of her husband still haunts her mind. She knew that man, as many others, could be brought back, but there was no time... So many dead and such in a hurry. They didn't have the time to save them all. With great regret, she blessed them all and left their corpses where they laid, praying that, at least, they'd had the deserved peace in the afterlife.
She'd spend the night in Outentown, writing down some letters for her brethren to inform them as soon as possible before returning to Sarshel

The Laviguer and Prince's Roads are awash with blood in the coming days. Snow turns to rain; roadside impediment to a slush, more blood than mud. Bodies collect beneath the filth. Weapons are not the only thing buried in the snow, but keepsakes also. Family heirlooms and prized possessions taken from Laviguer as the priceless and most precious of material things in all the mortal world, half-sunk beneath that snowy substance that clogs the pathways that connect one settlement to the next.

Cassandra would not be the only one haunted by what she had experienced that day. Many men and women carried wounds invisible, yet which lay just as deep as those that had cleaved their loved ones from them. Lord Rouvles Dintersan stays for a time in Outentown as others make headway towards Sarshel, and both settlements are soon abundant of refugees, so that Outentown's tavern is unrecognisable from the oft-empty space that gave hearth and happiness for the colluding folk that make up Impiltur's adventuring population. Yet, it would be only a moment of release from the torrent in which the region was caught. Soon after, those that came to Outentown and no further could be considered fortunate for their inferior constitutions, for they were passed over by the Daemon of the 7th - known now to some as the Daemon Prince - just as Vlasta had been passed over. The battle goes to Sarshel: the outcome? It was as happy an outcome as could be hoped for, but there was no knowing that then.

Merney Valroc is diverted back to Sarshel by the imminent expectation of the Daemon Prince there, and it is with good reason. Yet two others known to save a major section of the refugee contingent - who are, by name, Miss Pine and Lucien Castell - continue to make tracks upon the Laviguer Road. As a caravan escort, the fledgling forces can expect no better than Lucien Castell, but the roads are soon abandoned by Daemons altogether as the shadow of the Daemon Prince passes over the miles and goes directly to the place of its resurgence. The man's strength and bravery are needed to hold the caravans true to their course and without impediment, but it is a journey that proves scarcely dangerous for him, with formless lumps of haunted flesh - those which are the lesser Daemons of a nightmarish other world - being the last vestiges of Daemon activity upon the Laviguer Road.

And it would be right to say that the mission of Isalin Pine seems uncharacteristically stupid - or, to an optimist's mind, exceptionally noble. She is partway along The Prince's Road by the time great destruction and ultimate triumph has been wrought in Sarshel, however, and she hears no word of it. No matter either if she did: the end of the 7th does not end the quest upon which she was embarking...

The Vlastan Refugees that stayed in Outentown would fall under the care of the huntress that accompanied them on the trek south and fought for them, though the care is in the loose sense of the word. Just at the borders of town, care comes in the sense of a Hunter's Feast.

The woman known as Kara would have organized a feast for them to keep them fed, simple as the feast may be. Most of the food would be hunted game, whatever may remain in the wilds. The occassional deer that survived the winter, as well as rabbits and boar. Hard as game may be find in the woods for ordinary hunters, a Beastmaster with her own pack may have the edge over those man and women.

The meat is supplemented with exotic fruits and berries, brought forth by druidic magic no doubt. The bones of the animals are used to draw a light soup. The only other ingredients would be some spicy herbs and mushrooms that could be foraged, though the soup is still not too impressive as far as soups go. But warm food is still warm food, when hungry.

The furs of the game Kara hunted are laid out on the ground near a simple campfire, a warm spot outside to eat.

The setting is very simple, and almost primitive to some who are used to luxuries, but the Huntress clearly does not care for flair. The simple feast is there for a purpose and celebration is not one of them. Lord Rouven is given an invitation as well, and should he show up with others of his community, she would let the man be in charge of his people and how food is distributed; the Huntress would make the claim these are his people after all, and he should be the one to care for them
