Research: Tregorian's Gate

Postby Toros » Tue Feb 09, 2016 8:20 am

Jerek would make a trip up to songhall and see if he could find any information on a fort adjacent to a gate nestled in the earthspur mountains. Specifically, why it was build and why it was abandoned.

Kelda joins him on the trip, hoping to commit her experience with The House of Many Tomes's libraries and librarians. The subject of her search through the tomes is the same: she works with Jerek to broaden and deepen the search.

Pyrrhos emerges from the depths of the library, stinking of incense. He deposits on a nearby table a stack of maps, several historical chronicles, and a binder full of 11th century Helmite temple correspondence. The items are flagged with notes like 'Promising,' 'Suspect,' and 'Baffling.'

He shares a cup of hot water and diluted, sour wine with his friends and erstwhile researchers, bows low, and vanishes back into his studies.

Certain sections of Songhall's expansive library are off-limits for certain folk: those who are not resident academics at the library fortress, or those who lack citizenship can sometimes find their path blockaded by bureaucracy, but that is to be expected, one supposes. Due to a prior scuffle with an esteemed scholar of the library, Orin Tyrson, Jerek finds his activity within the library hampered somewhat more than might be necessary: though Orin Tyrson seems to have buried the hatchet with the Warsword, other scholars are not so inviting of his activity in areas of study that might equally interest them.

Pyrrhos, more than most adventurers, appears to be held in high esteem by the dour ensemble of scholars and Seekers of Knowledge that inhabit Songhall, and would make headway at a quicker pace: but that pace, too, is no doubt tempered by the Chessentan man's rigorous documentation and attention to detail on every find he deems worthwhile.

//OOC: Each character involved in this search for information will be required to send a PM to 'Obsidian Sea' detailing their base score in the following skill at their current level, in order to properly weigh how far each character would come in their studies - and in which of these areas they would excel. If any of the PCs involved would like to add additional skills to their submission and can justify why they think it might be relevant, those will also be considers (if indeed they do turn out to be relevant). The skills required for each character are:

Knowledge: Architecture & Engineering
Knowledge: Geography
Knowledge: History
Knowledge: Local

Any Bard levels, Harper Scout levels, or bonuses based on Priest domains (if any of these apply) can be documented as an aside in the PMs, as they might prove worthwhile.

As Jerek's initial progress is impeded, he makes it obvious that he is recording the full names and detailed actions of the various scholars he interacts with, whether helpful or not.

To those, if any, that are helpful, Jerek's demeanor is friendly and personable. To those that are not he is simply businesslike.
