A Request for Knowledge

The sound of the quill moving along the parchment was soothing. That familiar scribbling with it's occasional pause, to allow the quill a small moment of respite from it's hard work, allowing it to wet it's beak in the inkwell. Work was a good way to relieve stress for the wizardess and stress she had plenty to work off. And this particular work, while it provided a nice distraction was important for other reasons too.

The scribbling ceased, and Gwendolynn looked the scroll over. The parchment was filled up in a fluid handwriting, the words meaningless to those who knew nothing of the Art. Words of Power, caught on parchment. Or rather, simply words right now. The power was still lacking, but they served as the foundation of this, at least. Words that would hold and be able to release the intended divination on command. The divination, the irony was not missed upon the spellsword, with a wry smile forming on her lips.

Then, words were spoken. An incantation, prepared the eve prior. A request, that fortunatly was present in her spellbook. It made her work all the easier. The incantation continued, magic present within them. A pinch of talk and a sprinkling of a fine, silvery dust found their way to the parchment. Lightly sprinkled there by the spellsword, drifting down upon the scroll as the incantation came to an end. A discharge of magical power, the magical energies and the scroll itself imbued with power. Waiting to be completed, to be unleashed.

It was not for now, that the scroll would see it's purpose fulfilled. Instead it was carefully rolled up by Gwendolynn and slipped in a scrollcase. No, the scroll she just scribed and prepared was still to be her travelling companion. And the two of them set out immediatly, while the day was still young.

Donning her gauntlets before grabbing her cloak and staff, Gwendolynn set off. Prepared for the long trip that awaited her.

Wind howled and tugged at the spellsword's cloak, a needy child that saw a toy it wanted to have. Her cloak was not to be a toy however, Gwendlynn tugged it into place with a firm hand, even as she gazed up the mountain path.

She had come a far way already and was nearly there. The trip was a fierce one, but she never truly minded it. She admitted to herself it would have been easier and faster to fly, but she did not feel comfortable using powerful magic like that this day. No, it might still be needed, it would be foolish to wear herself thin at this point. Not like the walk was unwelcome. It was hazardous in it's own way, unhospitable, tiring. Perhaps it was not minded as much as it allowed her to think on other matters, let her mind try and make sense of matters learned and matters still to be learned.

Gwendolynn continued onwards, ascending along the steep path. It helped that she was in fit physical condition, she figured. Her stride was steady and her staff helped for some stability along the slippery and steeper parts of the roads. The wizard's staff, not only fashionable but a loyal companion on the harsher journeys too.

Songhall itself was a welcome sight when she neared. She crossed the bridge over the mountain stream with relief, with a small nod of her head given to the guards as they opened the gate for her. Poor man, the Gwendolynn thought to herself. She recognized his face, it was not the first time this one had to stand guard in the cold and the wind. It was normally not given much thought, but she supposed that the trip she made - and the elements endured - made her more empathic to this man's duty. And not in the least bit envious.

After a small smile to the guard, it seemed he could do with a friendly face passing by, Gwendolynn made her way through the streets. Her destination was obvious. Even if the magus was not a familiar sight already, the robe, staff and many pouches and satchels carried would betray her dealings with the Arcane easily.

Familiar steps were ascended up to the halls of knowledge. Even after the long trip with it's hardships and the cold, the winds, the sleet, the hail, the sight of the library was invigorating in a way. At least to the mind, but what else can be expected of inquisitive and minds willing to learn, when confronted wikth such a vast pool of knowledge?

Making her way inside, Gwendolynn brushed her hood back, her gaze drifting along the entry hall. She stepped further, the slight metallic steps that were a result of her armour sounded in contrast to her appearance, as the spellsword made her way further. She had a name, a scholar to look for. And so Gwendolynn did, to seek out Creighton Wyles and fulfill the scholar's request.

Creighton Wyles might be precisely the kind of figure that Gwendolynn Highblade expected to meet. Drowned in his robes, blue and brown in colour composition, he is a short man ill-deployed at physical labour, and likely that has had some role to play in his decision to enter into the world of academia. He smiles at her approach when he sees her entering the room, but does not reciprocate a path towards her, for having not yet known her in any other capacity than at the good work of Loremaster Jarlin, he has no certainty that this is the woman upon whom he waits. Seeing her being pointed in his direction as she makes her inquiry at the front of the library, his face lights up a bit.

He is a man in his late twenties, but baby-faced regardless. His accent is familiar to Gwendolynn, being Cormyrian like her own. It seems that all kinds of folk come from near and far to benefit from the library fortress of Songhall.

"Ms Highblade?" he begins. Upon receiving the scroll and studying the detail of it, his eyelids flutter quickly with startled gladness. "This is just the scroll! Thank you! I will endeavour to make sure your contribution to my works are known throughout the library, and when I am capable of publishing my findings. Magnificent. I shall go to the task of using it after two days of full repose from mental labours - that seems best.

"I will pass your name to any colleagues I know to require similar services. Thank you again, Ms Highblade, very, very much."
