Songhall - Reflection

Postby EventHorizon » Sun Sep 18, 2016 7:06 am

Songhall, a site of truth. Truth, the sword, the shield, the mirror's frame to Order. A straight mirror reflects the truth, a warped one confusion; turned subtly and carefully in each direction, a wise eye can see the truth from each meticulous angle and envision all of its dimensions.

Havon of Suldanessellar pilgrims to the climb near Songhall, peering out at the mountains' early evening horizon.

Havon peers into the mirror, examining its reflection's dimensions at different angles. He looks at the remote scene reflected in the mirror - not an image of his own, Elf-aged face, but of a flowery hill... he looks toward the south, toward Filur, wondering if the sky of the mirror is the same as the sky above the unfamiliar settlement.
Spoiler:
As the wintery sky of day fades into dusk, he keeps track of the mirrored scene, watching it for like changes. He utters a quiet prayer, "Gargauth, send apart the winter clouds, make between them a rift so that your eyes may see hidden clues."

Gargauth, karj okond draka 'yrdani... zoga cad'aar draz, o randoyr nyvd... iy'n aiak zykrd..., ryjjar rm'ak
Gargauth, send apart these wintery... make between them, a certain rift... your eyes might..., hidden clues.

He watches for the stars, remembering their stories, their significancies, their signs; he looks up to where the seasons have taught him to expect one constellation or another, or what he remembers of them, and all of this he compares to the mirrored scene, checking for any sights that match.

And he looks up at the darkened sky.
