Major Lag

Postby OldBear » Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:33 pm

For some reason starting about two days ago, when I log on, I have terrible lag. It takes about 20 to 30 seconds to move from one spot to another or to respond to a tell. I recently had to install a new hard drive and a new windows 10 operating system. Prior to that I also used windows 10 and logged on as an administrator. After getting the new hard drive on and working ( I downloaded all the nwn files from a backup flash drive) and reloading all the haks etc. I had no trouble playing. All of a sudden I now have this lag and no one else I speak to has it. So today, I reload nwn off the flash drive and again downloaded all the haks from the server list. It is still terrible lag.

Does anyone have any ideas? Right now the game is unplayable as it is. I have tried to two separate internet networks and the speed on the internet in general is excellent.

Thanks,

Bear

I'm not a computer expert, but you could try checking the following:

- Ensure your graphics driver is up to date
- When running on Windows 10, run the game in compatibility mode for WinXP usually helps performance issues
- Make sure "Enable Shiny Water" is turned off in the game options

Windows 10 updates slows NWN

Maybe your problems are also related to a Windows 10 update? I'll have more of a poke around when I'm back but it looks like you aren't on your own :(

A question: is it possible to install XP or Win7 on different HD partition, so to have dual boot system?

The issue did seem to come up after the last windows update Brind. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yes shining waters is off, have always had issues with it.

If you need to partition your HD (assuming folks in service didn't do it for you), I can recommend you some software for it.

Would compatibility mode not help to dodge the effects of the update. I'd try that first.

Tried various compatibility modes, both on the NW server from here that skips the override folder and also by going directly to the nwnmain setting to change compatibility there as well. Neither one worked, checked Windows 8 & 7 as well as the version prior to vasta

If the suggestions haven't worked... to narrow things down a bit before you do more complex surgery:

1) Does the toolset still run ok Bear?
2) Do you have the same problems trying to load a local module (not an internet or lan) game?
3) Could you try *completely* disabling the sound?

Cheers.
