The Dark Tower

Rumors tell of a quiet tower in the forest between Thelnam and Outentown, though some foolish enough to seek it out have not found it, and whispers say the tower has been seen other places as well.

They say it has heavy dark grey stonework, surrounded by gnarled trees and topped with statues of fiends and monsters. Any man who gets close feels the chill of death.

Yet a band of adventurers passed through, heavily armed and armored, and returned hours later singed, blood-spattered, and reeking of foul incense and orc gore. One of their party barely clung to life, but in their eyes there was no despair, only determination.

((This consitutes my beginning of what I hope is a new story arc. All are welcome to post in this thread related to what happened or actions taken afterwards))

Jerek seeks his Alorn and reports of the assault on the tower, and of having met fierce and well-equipped resistance, incredibly strong orcs and those wielding fire and darkness. Jerek provides a rough sketch of the internal layout and of a heavily runed door in the basement.

Taking the advise given by a wisened dwarf, he recommends that the warsword keep watch on the tower, both to contain the orcs and to provide early warning in the event... something... is unleashed.

Kelda passes on word of their findings--especially Hroin's--to her superior at the church, even asking after any who might be known to be experts on the subject of fiends. She takes back up her earlier studies on the subject, begun many months ago when she first began encountering fiends and planar mischief in the area. The priestess sets off on a brief tour of Songhall and other nearby towns in search of any more information.

Known by some to already be familiar with the topic (Knowledge: Planes +9), Kelda for now keeps a close eye along with Sir Jerek on the key that was retrieved from the tower.

Jonan still has to come to grip with the fact that some people keep spiders as pets. What's next? Pet goblin? Oh, there was a talk about some tower where that black armoured loudmouth with whom you can't get the word in sideways almost bit the dust... Hrm... Aye, that's what they were talking about. So, lets wait to see how much they got from there. Could be nice coin. Not easy, but still nice.

Both the alorn and the priest are quick to voice their alarm, but as time passes little seems to happen. Further questions on the subject are brushed aside with scarce more than the mention such a place is best left alone, for everyone's safety. Eventually, the alorn confirms that the matter has passed into the hands of the Warwand and details on the tower are beyond his level of access.

Songhall's accounts on fiends and other Narfelli relics meanwhile are well guarded from common eyes, and it takes quite an effort to pry just a couple of heavily censored texts from the hands of a suspicious Oghmite priest. These reveal that the tower has been known to the authorities for some time, but was considered properly warded. If those wards have now expired, a grave threat stands to be unleashed upon the eastern coast.
