Elient; The Fading
pertaining to the year 1363 DR
Spoiler:
  • The people of Outentown celebrate an unexpected period of prosperity relative to other villages still blighted by the Impilturan snow: a local woman of the village has donated the proceeds of a valuable sale to repairing the community's important sites. The village has seen the favour of Lathander too in the form of His foremost Priestess in the region. Many adventurers have tithed to the shelter of Ilmater there, and there is word of request to the Lords of Outentown that a Ranger Protector be instated.
  • Lady Corentine Wellhaven of Mincester has made arrangements to address the people of Vlasta at their meethall in the month to come following Lord Roulves Dintersan's recent visit to the Wellhaven estate.
  • Lorena Calenrar, Heartwarder of Sune, has put a moratorium on workplace relationships at The Velvet Chantry's location in Songhall. Allegedly, a flood of complaint letters from colleagues across Impiltur have followed.
  • Merchants and travelers are fretful about security along The Royal Road. A Warsword patrol upon the second tenday of Elient found the half-buried bodies of three people (assumed to be adventurers) dragged off of The Royal Road after what was an assuredly violent encounter.
  • Warsword patrols along the coast south of Sarshel have doubled in the final tenday of Elient. Three bodies of loyal men, sworn to the crown, washed up on the shores of Relgar, their condition too horrific for the Warswords to disclose.
  • Lord Temden Nassour of Basilmill is said to have finally taken a lover. Though the matter remains behind closer doors, it is a social distraction that has helped his people forget the snow for much of Elient's calendar.
  • Rumours begin to circulate following a recent disturbance at Drumaire Manor that the estate grounds are haunted. Whether Lord Ashkyr Relindar has enlisted the services of a Priest to exorcise the grounds remains unknown.

Week 41
pertaining to the year 1363 DR
Spoiler:
  • Songhall is the talk of several social circles these days. Among them, patrons of art and The Thirsty Fool note the gallant works of an exotic songspinner, whose ballad concerns a local mythological figure, Stribog. In the song, Stribog is allegedly slain, and not even by the popular knights of the Order of the Most Holy Shrike. Rather, the God of Wind and Sky meets his end by adventurers' swordsmanship. Critics praise the ballad for its structure and melody, but some complain that the Order has not received their due for too long.
  • Another matter of discussion in Songhall is the Velvet Chantry, whose halls had been firmly closed the past tenday. Since then, Sunites have been seen making the arduous journey to Songhall, putting concerns of the Velvet Chantry's final closure or other unsettling rumours to rest.
  • Sprat, shad and eel fishing has been bountiful this season, and many coastal or riverside locales offer these now in their dishes instead of white or red meat. None of these fish types are delicious, unfortunately, but they are cheap and abundant. Aglarondan, Thayan and Vastar imports of vegetables and salted meats have steadily increased as well.
  • Around the township of Filur, two dead bodies hint at murderers in the nearby woods, and people are expectedly wary. If anyone cared for local gossip, the clanless vagabond of Rolvik has taken up residence not far from the town and has been considered "quite all right" as far as strangers go. Bad tongues speak of him as the woodland murderer, while others are simply happy for the services he provides the township.
  • Veterans and elderly men contemplate that the relentless winter has been endured relatively well thus far, but that a hobgoblin or orc assault is bound to flood from the mountains soon. That, or a flood of starved hobgoblin corpses, come thaw. Lack of resources has had its toll on Impiltur, but the mountain ranges must be seven-fold worse.
  • Stowside, a village by the coast not far from Thelnam, has become a ghost settlement overnight. Terrified witnesses have been questioned and taken into the care of Warsword troops, who have sent heavily armed patrols into the area. It is suggested that a bloodbath took place in the village. Many if not all villagers are dead, including the female dwarf smith of some renown, Huldrid the Brittle.

Week 42
pertaining to the year 1363 DR
Spoiler:
  • The Marmibur family business has flourished this year, whose primary export consists of ash and black-needle pine furniture. The business' location in Red Bluffs and their affiliations in Hlammach placed them in an ideal position, on the coast: thusly, transport of their goods could shift to the sea. Transport by land has proven to be much slower, harder and more dangerous due to weather conditions, although there are claims that the Marmiburs have close ties to pirates and sponsor a priest of Umberlee. This could be the only reason for their maritime trade successes.
  • The Velvet Chantry, a prestigious Sunite establishment in Songhall, was reportedly closed for several days a tenday ago. Rumours abound that a daemon had appeared there at the time, though it is allegedly no longer, and Sunites from other regions have made the journey to assist their sisters and brethren. They might heal the ugly wounds the chantry bore in the aftermath of the daemon. Not only the Triad has failed to provide succour in Impiltur, but no other goodly faiths can protect the people, either, grim word-of-mouth implicates.
  • Foresters and hunters warn of arctic ghosts skulking the wilderness by the Earthfast foothills, and similar word has passed regarding the Earthspur Mountains' boundaries. In the increasingly longer nights, white shadows are claimed to be seen. Accounts vary on whether or not these are goblins decked in frost and white furs, yetis, or effigies of Auril the Frostmaiden. Offerings to the goddess are done regularly by households.
  • In Dilpur, complaints spread rapidly about a mysterious illness caused by imported Aglarondan rose apples. The few local merchants investing in the imports may have to dump all the apples, and inspection of all fruit becomes paramount. A cart was allegedly put to the torch by the authorities. Some, however, are willing to buy the poisonous apples at a bargain price, either motivated by skepticism or desparation.
  • An Outentown villager has been brutalised, and a more renowned local housewife from a farmstead - one from the Legre family - was supposedly hurt severely when trying to tend to her fellow villager's wounds. Village accounts suggest a farmstead accident, others blame a quarrel gone gravely wrong with a foreigner. Fortunately, the housewife is on her swift way to recovery, thanks to others' assistance.
  • A gypsy caravan has passed through several thaedar already, now past Filur. Their fortune teller predicts people's future by listening to his six cats, who sing in chorus when offered copper or silver - be that in coin, tools or jewellery. The cats have been received as a popular spectacle thus far.

Week 47
pertaining to the year 1363 DR
Spoiler:
  • Just the other night, a wave of depression washed over the steadfast and recuperating city of Sarshel. Allegedly, the main city granary has been revealed to be assaulted by a fungal pestilence. The largest two compartments of the granary have been contaminated, rendering much of the stored rye, wheat and barley - essentials to daily food - spoiled and unfit to eat. The grains are being disposed of to avoid further damage, but the populace is inconsolable. Much hope this everwinter has been placed in the stored goods from previous harvests.
  • While the Lords of Imphras II, the highest lords and lady of Impiltur, usually rule their lands through their Royal Heralds, it is still unusual how little they have been seen publicly. Some suggest they have secluded themselves altogether in a secretive council, but others are certain that they are on an on-going quest on behalf of their king and kingdom. In their absence there is more cause for tension, concern, or a sense of abandonment.
  • The Dilpuran crisis of poisonous apples was long forgotten - until the current situation in Sarshel arose. A visiting coven of Talontar, priests of the Lady of Rot, are supposedly growing popular there in the meantime.
  • These days, they call the Just God Tyr as 'the Third' among the Triad in the Sarshel region. Strongest is the faith in the Ilmatari, who remain active in the area and who offer many donations to the less fortunate - both monetary and medicinal. The Loyal Fury is second after the Broken God in Triadic worship, but the lipservice invested in the Even-Handed One today is the least it has been in decennia.
  • In news beyond the kingdom, word spreads among sailors that Teldar, master of the pirates of the Inner Sea, was challenged and defeated by his main rival, Vurgrom "the Mighty". Teldar is exiled to Thesk as Vurgrom takes the ship's wheel in terrorising the maritime trade routes. Hopefully Impiltur's coastline will not be targeted, though increased traffic there makes the Easting Coast a primary target.
  • Bloodstone mining and export has known a sudden boost this past moon, owing to the discovery of a new vein and tunnel network in the Earthfast Mountain range.
  • In solemn but nostalgic news, the Feast of the Moon is around the corner. Traditionally, Impilturans place less importance on this date than inhabitants of western Faerûn, but the custom of recalling old tales and respecting the dead are likely not alien to them.

Nightal; The Drawing Down
pertaining to the year 1363 DR
Spoiler:
  • Refugees from Thesk are being gradually displaced in some of the northern settlements of Impiltur by rural migrants and patriotic propaganda. Some of the Theskans driven to criminal activity in the harsher settlements have been exiled into the barren wilderness with only the clothes upon their back as the terms of their punishment.
  • The Belle's Bottom of Sarshel is alleged to be facing closure; gaining new management; and then re-opening sometime in 1364 DR. Rumours fly in abundance as to the identity of entrepreneurs that would express interest in one of troubled Sarshel's least reputable drinking dens.
  • As the nation looks towards a new year and the perpetuation of thick and unnatural snowfall, the weather has suddenly began to clear. Rain and brief moments of sun clear the snow, and many people rejoice. Experts warn of the potential for flooding, and many communities are still encouraged to tithe to The Gods of Fury.
  • A Warsword contingent has been lost in the mountains. Some say that they became sacrifices to Auril, thus the sudden caesura on the wicked winter.
  • Just as morale is being restored to the nation with the passing of the weather, a terrible explosion triggered a minor earthquake deep within The Barrowlands. The earthquake caused minor damage to The Angelus Bridge: the explosion was heard, but not seen, as far as Outentown. A black shadow was perceived moving west within the clouds later the same day, and people fear the worst...

Week 1 - 1364 DR

Postby Kilaana » Mon Jan 02, 2017 11:06 am

Week 1
pertaining to the year 1364 DR
  • A trickle of caravans and wagons have been making their way along the The Royal Road as those with vested interests in the city of Sarshel make a return to reclaim what they left behind. Families who are eager to return to their place of birth; businesses which were shut hastily seek to take up production again to fill the months-long void in their ledgers.
  • Word has spread to all four cities of Impiltur that a celebration - sponsored jointly by the church of Lathander and the Ilmatari arm of the Triad - is planned to commemorate Sarshel's victory over the daemon terror of 7th Mirtul. Though no date has been given yet, there is speculation that it might coincide with the festival of Midwinter, traditionally held between the months of Hammer 30 and Alturiak 1. The city of Sarshel begins to see its first signs of activity, as places along the thoroughfare are demarcated for stalls, tents and all the trappings of a much-needed festival.
  • Recruitment posters have begun to make appearances at various establishments and outposts around Impiltur, some even as far as Procampur to the south, as the military seeks to replenish its numbers lost from the Warswords' winter-long campaigns against the nation's threats. The news is slower to reach the northern coldlands of Damara, but some say that the Theskans might beat their northern neighbours to this opportunity.
  • A Sembian ship, bearing the name "The Proserpine", has been seen dropping anchor at Sarshel's dockyards. Its gleaming green hull, painted with ornate gold lines, has garnered much attention since its arrival. Little has been seen of their crew, and rumors fly that their captain is a recluse who prefers to dine in the comfort of his own cabin. Others say that it is in fact a ghost ship, guided to port by the city's misfortunes, but none have dared to investigate its purpose so far. Dockhands who venture to approach it have reported all its doors locked and impossible to break.
  • A twentyscore or so citizens have been making their perch outside the palace gates in Sarshel from time to time. When asked their business, they speak of waiting for their "Lady Scion", who has agreed to send them aid. Most of these appear to be peasants, impressed by the dashing authority that the Scion cuts and hungry for something more than soup to fill their bellies. Others that wait claim positions among the aristocracy, and seem interested in what Louhi and her retinue can provide.
  • The soup kitchen's waiting line grows as displaced Theskan refugees join Impilturans in the bid for nourishment. On one occasion, the city watch had to be called in when an argument broke out over rumours that two queues were to be formed - one for Impilturans, and the other for non-citizens. Some take the opportunity to make disparaging remarks about the efficiency of the Ilmatari who run the operation.

Ches; The Claw of the Sunsets
pertaining to the year 1364 DR
Spoiler:
  • People begin to speak of 1364 DR as The Merchant Year in central Impiltur, owing to a prominence of middle class and economic activities that have driven through the month of Ches.
  • Laviguer is finally back on its feet after many months of regeneration efforts. Though the town is not as grand as it once was and suffers in the shadow of Impiltur's coastal cities, it's proximity to the mines of Vordric Dun give it a permanent place of purpose on the Impilturan map. Immigrants brave this entrepreneurial restart for the town whilst some of its former inhabitants vow to stay away.
  • A Sarshellan Masquerade foreshadows the alleged reclamation of the old Waukeenaur temple by the region's High Dawnlord. The event was a lively mixture for adventurers and merchant's alike. Jezebel's has lost certain female staffers to the risqué recruitment policy undertaken by many male members of The Velvet Chantry at the event, but otherwise the occasion was taken as a rousing success.
  • Didn't you hear? According to Shyflet's finest, the month of Tarsakh is going to be all about the colour green. Some people are going to great expense to have Illusionists and clothiers dye their rarest articles of clothing to fit the fashion.
  • Many of the refugees of Thesk that settle in central Impiltur are heeding an Ilmateri promise of new employment opportunities in the future, and have become a noticeable demographic of the church's present worship. Merchants remain dismissive of the speculative promises of employment, which are still in the aspirational phase of progress - for now.
  • The grand and glorious ship, The Proserpine and it's enigmatic Masked Lady had a false disembarkation from the docks of Sarshel at the month's change. People fear terrible publicity from a scuffle that broke out on the docks on the afternoon of her departure, in which even magic was brought to bear in the midst of citizens. For the first time in years, the Lyrabaran family name 'Peveril' sees circulation in middle class circles. The Proserpine is slated for a tenday's delay before its final departure owing to the need to replace several members of her crew.
  • Rumour has it that Lord Starsunder is seeking something (or someone) called 'The Undying'. The rumours are not consistent about what 'The Undying' might be, or for that matter which Lord Starsunder it is that wants to find it.
  • Chauntean enthusiasts travel from all over to observe the budding beauty of Filur's green gardens. Prizes are being won by the township as the happy settlement's flora proves the most eager to bloom this Spring.

Week 16
pertaining to the year 1364 DR
Spoiler:
  • A guild war went public in Baytown last tenday. A Zhentarim operation was exposed and thwarted, but not before a violent exchange which saw the death of two of upstarts responsible (believed to be Harpers) and caused the other two to flee for other lands.
  • Rumour has it that the spellbook of Treadpath's lord has been stolen out from under him. Would-be Arcanists and wayfaring mages cast the net of their investigations wide in the hopes of being the one to find the lordly compendium.
  • The unremarkable and yet oft-troubled settlement of Vlasta suffers once more, and it is said the rising dead are responsible though word spreads slowly. The village has seen an influx of itinerant warriors, Priests and mystics set on addressing the threat, and members of the Most Holy Order shall soon follow if the rumours are as true as they are grave.
  • Lady Ezale Warledine, ruling over Huntingisle Bridge, has shown signs of holing herself up yet again for the coming months. Appointments at the lady's manor have been cancelled indiscriminately and while farmers look forward to the Disnator they think shall follow, others become concerned about the competency of her leadership.
  • With Laviguer once more resuming operations, people wonder if and when Stowside shall see itself restored from its ghostly state of abandon.
  • A triumvirate has been instituted to oversee the recovery of The Temple of the Triad in Sarshel, for which almost a year has passed since its terrible day of reckoning. Activist and public speaker for the church, Kelda Adler, assumes the role of Mother over Ilmater's flock in the region, whilst worthy candidates to be the voice of Tyr and Torm's church shall be drawn from elsewhere where Triadic presence is more steadfast.

Mirtul; The Melting
pertaining to the year 1364 DR
Spoiler:
  • The unprecedented emergence of white lilies on the lawns of Halfling households from Laviguer to Hlammach ushers in a period of pre-emptive mourning for those happy little labourers, who anticipate bereavements in the month ahead.
  • Songhall pushes the boundary of its vast shelves of worldly knowledge, and looks now to accumulate texts and artefacts that might provide an insight into the contemporary lives of the desertfaring folk of Anauroch. If and how such knowledge would come organically to Impiltur nobody is quite certain.
  • Filur welcomes a begrudging new member to its community, or so it seems: a Dwarf of befouled mood takes stubborn refuge at the inn there, responding to every pleasant inquiry about his business with grim dismissal. It is decided easily enough that this Dwarf is not of the same noble stock as those integrated into the Kingdom of Impiltur as allies, hailing once from the Earthfast Mountains.
  • As Triadic influence grows strong once again in the region of Sarshel, it is said with Uthmere Tyrrans are taken with heresy. Delegates of the Impilturan church are sent east in an effort to quench the matter before the month turns.
  • The sea remains a moody mistress throughout the month of Mirtul, proving belligerent to the shipping lanes of Impiltur's coastal cities. Appeasements and pleas are made to the Gods of Sea and Travel, although a Sarshellan minority suspect that the result is nothing more than an inevitable change of fortune as fairer winds hurry to follow The Prosperine, a ship most beautiful, as she departs for new horizons.
  • Beware the weeping woman of The Royal Road. A fanciful title, aye, but little else of her bearing shall stand the test of time - save, maybe, her wickedness. It is known that she was cast out from the estate of Lady Delpim's younger sister. The woman does not proclaim her innocence. Rumours have yet to fix the circumstance that warranted her dismissal, but all know better than to doubt that justice has been served in nobler circles.
