The cheerful notice might receive glances that are indifferent, musing or happy; certainly one well-dressed dame's is the latter.

A few days after the notice's placement, arrays of colourful folded paper flowers and ribbons, red, white and pink, are hung around the Adler household door and the staircase leading up to it.
