Combining Weapon Types & Fun Accessories

Postby Krivoklat » Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:46 pm

I like that there are various weapons in the loot matrix like for example, "Warrior's Hand Axe" that is just as a normal handaxe but has +1 Intimidate Skill with -1 Reflex save.

But... as soon as the "Champion" item is found (not too difficult to find) that item is usually (i've found) discarded just for that small advantage of +1 bludgeoning damage.

And then the Champion goes away as soon as a "Quality" weapon is found, keeps the +1 Damage, but loses the extra weight of the "Champion" grade weapon.

-- Since actual "Enchanted" weapons are so rare... could we get some more varied degrees of the Quality and Champion weapons that would combine with the existing weapons like Traveler's or Warriors, Ceremonial etc...?

So that you could eventually find "Champion's Traveler's Longsword" --which keeps the +1 balance skill... and adds +1 damage...
and then the "Quality Traveler's Longsword" would keep the Balance Skill, keep the +1 Damage, but lose the weight and the other penalty.

--

I'd also like to request a "Fencing" weapon type that is 80% weight reduced, -1 damage, +1 Parry skill and you could have "Fencing Longsword" or "Fencing Dagger" or "Fencing Spear" or "Fencing Trident" (That would be fun!) ... "Fencing Rapier" <-- definitely this one

And of course the top part about combining this "Fencing" type weapon with the "Champion's" and "Quality" versions of them as well.

--

Accessories:
The Merchants in the Sarshel Square offer a few items that are of specific use to some classes, but also some items that are ONLY mechanically useful to ONE class... Bards... with the clothing articles that offer + Perform skill.

could we get some items that offer a +1 to stealth such as "Soft Boots" or Leaf-colored Cloak, .. which maybe offers +2 stealth, but only in "wooded areas" similar to Ranger bonus. (that would actually be very cool)

Maybe some other items might be:
"Lucky Ring" that offers +1 search, at the cost of -1 reflex
"Necklace of ears" which offers +2 Intimidate, at the cost of -1 charisma (creating a Net gain of +1 intimidate, but -1 every other social skill.)

--

Maybe some knowledge "books" might be cool too..
A knowledge BOOK could be an item you carry in your inventory which you can 'activate' to gain a +5 circumstance bonus in a specific skill that lasts for 5 rounds. --the BOOK is tied to a specific Knowledge: Arcana, Archetecture, Dungeoneering, Geography, History, etc...

You activate the book... you get the +5.. it lasts for 5 rounds.. .long enough for you to make a @roll

The idea is that you are looking the item up in the book.

--what might be cool too is that the book can only be used so many times before it just falls apart from wear... but it could be something that is more than a ONE USE item. --maybe it is like the identify tool and has 50 uses before being consumed.

Regarding "Necklace of Ears" --you know.. it could be nice "Crafting" thing, that "ears" could be added to the loot matrix when you kill goblins or hobgobins, etc.. and when you achieve.. say... 10 'ears' they can be combined into a "Necklace of ears" which then can be worn. --that way you don't buy it off a merchant (who would carry goblin ears anyway!) but maybe you have to buy a "Neck chain" or something to combine the ears with... and the Neck Chain must be purchased on the Merchant... who maybe is unaware their wares are being used in such a gruesome manner...

"ears" could become a macabre commodity... where no merchant will buy them.. they are for all intensive purposes worthless... excpet by those collectors who are trying to make their necklace.

--and.. even better... when worn... they grant a "reverse Favored Enemy" bonus... when fighting creatures which the ears are collected from.

For example... if you are wearing a necklace of Goblin Ears... when you go somewhere there are goblins... the sight of the necklace SPAWNS a greater number of goblins... or SPAWNS a particularly difficult BOSS... because.. you're wearing the ears of their comrads, and so they are especially pissed at you...

--the advantage of this? If you defeat the Special BOSS spawn created by the Necklace of Ears... there is a % that the BOSS will drop an ear.. and if that happens, your Necklace of Ears that grants you the +1 intimidate? NOW it loses the -1 charisma penalty because you've actually got a pretty impressive looking center piece for that necklace!

There could even be a larger % of a "large" ear to drop.. and your necklace of ears becomes "Champion's Necklace of Ears" and the -1 charisma penalty goes away... but the necklace gets +20% weight increase.

And for a small % the ear that drops is a Quality Ear... which when added to to the necklace of ears makes it a "Quality Necklace of Ears"
Which drops the -1 charisma penalty, with no Weight increase.

--

Maybe to ensure this is not abused... In order for the "Boss" to spawn... you need to meet 2 criteria...

1) someone in the Party must be wearing the normal 'unfinished" neckalce of ears of that particular race....

2) A RANGER must be in the party.. and that RANGER must have "Favored Enemey" of whatever race of creatures that the necklace comes from. --so if you're making a Necklace of Goblin Ears, you must have the standard necklace already created, AND a RANGER with "Favored Enemy: Goblinoids" Must be in your party.

I can't comment on the weapons since I'm not entirely familiar with all of the categories nor their associated skills

However, I like the idea of collecting items to build something up either for the fun of it or for some bonus. The concept of the necklaces of ears sounds interesting to add a different dynamic to some combat and to roleplay. One of my characters did something similar to that for a time and it would've been fun to having an actual item outside of renaming the pebbles to ears.

I would like to build off of your idea of the book and suggest in the same vein as the necklace that the books comes in different volumes and that the more volumes you have the better the bonus; having a scavenger hunt across Impiltur for the last, missing volume of Arcana or Dungeoneering makes a great personal quest that lasts who knows how long depending on how well hidden it is or how difficult it may be to come across.

An alternate suggestion is that what if the books were player initiated? With the recent announcement for in-game lore friendly items, I think it would be a perfect chance to get others interested in contributing to the server and that having multiple players trying to help set up books would be a fascinating server wide experience.

Overall, I like the idea of the book being limited and diminishing after uses, it is akin to having our characters getting so much knowledge and having a greater understanding of the subject that the book only now provides very minimal info.

I like the book idea. Its just a matter of someone writing the script for it.
If you write the script, there is a much much greater chance of it happening.

Simple static items like a lucky ring or necklace of ears are great, easy, and simple to add.
We certainly need more items and ideas like this. (And less furniture)

We have talked briefly about having some partial items that when all the pieces are found can be reassembled into something special.
Again though, that requires scripting and so is beyond most of us.

Maybe instead of 'scripting' it could be done with a custom conversation tree.

The conversation would detect the presence of a particular ResRef in the inventory. If the supplied ResRef items are present, then the item that is the component is consumer (removed) and the replacement item is spawned from the palate into the inventory of the one initiating the conversation tree.

I know in the conversation wizard there are options for adding conditionals to access certain branches of the conversation tree based on the inventory of the initiator of the conversation.
